IntroductionThe Carolyn Fok Museum is dedicated to preserving the legacy of artist Carolyn Fok. Ms. Fok, who currently resides in Los Angeles, is an award-winning painter and recording artist; and prolific writer and photographer. Beginning with drawings she made at the age of 3, and cataloguing nearly 40 years of creative output, the museum provides an extremely rare chance to observe the artistic and personal growth of one person, from infant to adulthood.Carolyn Fok’s visual artwork and electronic music mastery have both won international acclaim. She received a New York Society of Illustrators Award and worked as a graphic artist at Glamour. Ms. Fok, who is Chinese-American, won 1st Prize at the Philippe Charriol Foundation’s (Hong Kong) annual competition for one of her natural-surrealist paintings, which lead to shows in Asia alongside Van Gogh, Warhol, Piccasso, Frank Stella, Matisse and Lichenstein. Her music has been reviewed in Electronic Musician, Keyboard and Bikini and more, she has collaborated with Nine Inch Nail’s Tim Niemi and Elliot Sharp, and her 3 musaics (music CDs accompanied by full-length book of original art/writing) have won awards, placing on several critics’ annual Top 10 lists. She is also an accomplished photographer and prolific writer. Ms. Fok religiously, almost obsessively, saved everything she created from before she was in nursery school. From doodles made at the age of 3 before any formal training, to elaborate designs, oil paintings and writings made as an adult after years of experience and training; journal entries made as a teen that tell the story of an often difficult childhood, to meditations on relationships, creativity and spiritual growth just this year – the amount and breadth of work on display/record is staggering. The permanent collection contains 700+ images created between ages 3 and 13 (from original superheroes to books made on letter paper, some bound by brown paper bags and more); over 200 museum-quality drawings and paintings created as an adult (many of which have been sold or are in other collections); roughly 40 diaries & journals (covering 40 years) with thumbnail sketches, countless handwritten letters, and hundreds of experimental cassette recordings, customized digital music and sound designs. The Carolyn Fok Museum has an online store via, www.carolynfokmuseum.com/store), where original artworks may be purchased by special exhibitions or private sale, as well as momentos, souveniers, books, and gifts.
